Dr. Melody Aguayo has always had a personal interest in adoption issues, but this interest became an intense passion when she adopted her two children. She completed her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2004 from East Tennessee State University. She also holds a Ph. D. in Psychology from Capella University which she completed in 2010. She is a trained Circle of Security provider to parent groups. She has also completed Levels 1 & 2 of Theraplay training. Dr. Aguayo has also published many articles and is a regular contributor to the online magazines https://springible.com/tag/melody-aguayo/ and http://www.yourtango.com/experts/melody-aguayo . All of her professional pursuits have been spurred by her own personal story. She has two children, both adopted, each with different significant needs. She attended the TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) training for professionals led by Dr. Karyn Purvis and her team. She also had the double privilege of being able to return later that same year to participate in the Hope Connection Camp with her son. She has firsthand experience in parenting children from “hard places” and opened a private consulting practice to work with other adoptive families. She believes that any child can heal, but it takes an approach that treats the “whole child”.
